Just like I promised in my last post, the podcast episodes are starting to hit the ground running.
If you listen to any of my podcast offerings and you appreciate them, please be sure to leave me a review! Leaving me a review or following the podcast will exalt my work in the eyes of the searching, insensate robo-gatekeeper of mass media (i.e., the algorithm). Leaving a review seems like a small thing but it actually matters a ton, so thanks ahead of time if you would like to support my work that way!
Here’s the fresh drop:
Also, here’s what you need to do if you are having a particularly hard day.
Go for a one hour walk, and while you walk listen to this entire album all the way through from start to finish—no skipping ahead. Just let it wash over you.
This album is incredible. It’s not even about liking the style of music she puts out or whatever. This work is bigger than that. On some of the songs, she just reads scripture in her beautiful alto (contralto?) voice with a sort of spoken word approach to how she reads it.
I was having a hard day and heard one of her songs (“El Shaddai”) from a playlist called “Spiritual Songs” put together by Josh Garrels. I started to check out the album this beautiful song had come from and quickly realized this was not a musical work meant to entertain me while I drove my kids back and forth to school, but a tectonic, masterfully choreographed outpouring meant to buttress my suffering soul against the stupid things that assail it.
I decided in that moment to do exactly what I’ve told you to do: I put my headphones on, stepped out for a walk, and listened to about 40 minutes of it starting from the beginning. At one point the rain started to downpour on me which made the whole thing even more magical. I felt like I as in a movie. There we were, me and God walking in the downpour while this album poured-down scripture and poetic encouragement into my heart.
Anyhoo, give it a listen. But wait until you really need it. Wait until you could really use an hour walk away from the noise and crazy of your house. Save this like you’d save some Tylenol in your purse for whatever inconveniently timed headache may come your way.
Have a great weekend, my darlings.
